I've created imaginary creatures inspired by animals that interact with

environmental issues by helping or destroying nature. They are 19"x24" pieces made using soft pastels.

Midterm Advice/Suggestions:

-more texture

-Look at smog monster

(Godzilla)

 and Stink (Studio Ghibli)

I started out making works mainly based on environmental issues before settling on transforming these issues into monsters that terrorize their environment.

Materials: oil pastels (Nupastels are preferred type), paper

Ideas: combining the surreal with climate issues.

Idea: I was thinking of similar things where there is a danger lurking in beautiful environments based on places in earth that are essentially threatening it. I've considered even the idea of having a human like silhouette (or multiple) near the danger like they are the ones behind it.

Last Meeting: Beauty in the world, surrealist of nature, maybe time lapse images? 3 ideas of natural environments and 1 sketch.

9/14 Meeting: Show clear consequences, diptics? Do the research for your topics. Start 3 sketches with specific ideas. 18"x24". (Ice melting, deforestation, coral reefs), one starting in pastel.

Original Idea for project:

-dealing with humanity's affect on nature and animals. split landscape photo half being the scene (ie. rainforest, coral reef, arctic) if we let things continue how it's going (ie. deforestation, pollution, climate change, starving animals) vs. how it can be if we changed our ways for the better. (ie. florishing environments, animal populations returning from being threatened/endangered).

-humanity has a "path" it can take for this world. It can either save it or destroy it.

Like this photo but on a larger scale

Other Idea: surreal environments based on Earth? Maybe in a time where humans didn't impact nature as much as we do now? To show what could have been had we known better?
